PhD Thesis: Occurrence, Fate and Transport of Persistent Organic Pollutants in Natural water and Sediment of Western Bengal basin

Srimanti Duttagupta is an environmental scientist with experience in working with emerging organic pollutants in different spheres of Earth. She pursued her Ph.D. at the School of Environmental Science and Engineering at IIT Kharagpur. Her doctoral dissertation was one of the first studies which explored the distribution, fate, and behavior of persistent organic pollutants across the Western Bengal basin, India. She has an interdisciplinary research interest which includes environmental contaminants and public health. She was closely linked with water and sanitation projects conducted by the Water Supply and Sanitation Organization, Public Health Engineering Department, Govt. of West Bengal. Srimanti has expertise in fast and efficient analytical techniques of multiple targeted chemical residues and a non-targeted analytical approach for organic compounds of interest in environmental samples. Before pursuing her doctoral program, she received a Bachelor of Technology (B. Tech) in Biotechnology from West Bengal University of Technology, and a Master of Technology (M. Tech) in Environmental Biotechnology from Jadavpur University. She is presently associated with a project that deals with detecting and identifying unknown chemical compounds generated from tobacco and cannabis smoke in California natural reserve, leveraging a non-targeted and targeted analysis approach.
